For those of you that read my blog, see my tweets or follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that we’ve been celebrating Lil G’s 3rd birthday since Thursday, yes that’s right our gorgeous boy has allowed me to indulge in birthday celebrations for four whole days.
What with being away for two days on Thursday and Friday, which would normally be two out of the three Kindergarten days, I couldn’t help but think about the walk in to KG in the morning and of course the energy filled journey home. These have to be two of my favourite Ordinary Moments.
Lil G attends Kindergarten three days per week and I’m lucky to work from home on two of these days, after all these are the moments, that as a mummy I don’t want to miss. If you missed my Work Life Blend post then you can read it here.
Which do I prefer, mmmm let me think, that’s a tough one. Both are fabulous, but for completely different reasons. I love our morning stroll or run if the sun is shining. It’s quiet, thought provoking, often a conversation about the day or night before, practising something which he has had to remember for homework. Most recently Lil G had to learn all about where he lived, amazingly from a Friday to a Monday he was able to recite our address.
One of the main reasons why I love this time, and purely for selfish reasons is that it is actually just us, George and I enjoying a mother and son moment. No rushing, just taking the start of the day in our stride.
I also adore the end of the day, if I’m honest I look forward to it as soon as my lunch has been thrown down my neck! Despite Lil G not being around you kind of get used to eating at pace in order to actually eat! Kind of like when you return to the TV room, sit down and continue to watch cartoons despite no child being present!
Why is the end of the day so special? Let me tell you. Lil G is full of energy, laughter and joy from his day at KG. He comes running in from the garden with the biggest smile and huge hug for me. He greets me with such love that I can’t help but smile and feel so very proud of him. We set about our journey home with a hop, skip and a jump. Lil G can’t help but tell me his tales from the day, the food he’s eaten, the friends he’s played with, the bumps he’s had and of course how many times he’s had a wee or a poop.
At some point our Lil G will no longer require an escort, he will be waving goodbye before he’s left the house. Off on his journey with his friends no doubt. Not looking back, not thinking of how much I miss our morning strolls. I will be that mummy, in disguise, hiding behind him, watching him walk through the school gates safely. I may even be that mummy who turns up unannounced at the end of the school day for an impromptu collection! Mmmm reading that back it sounds a little strange, what the hell, it’s going to happen, I know it.
So, there you have it, my Ordinary Moments for this week. Linking up with this weeks host @GenuinePlacebo over at http://redheadbabyled.com/2014/06/29/playing-girls-toys-ordinary-moments/
