I need a cuddle

Or as Lil G calls it, a mummy cuddle. My heart melts each time he asks, after all he will only ever say these words to me. As a family we decided some three years ago that we wouldn’t have a second child, therefore it makes me very happy that Lil G loves cuddles just as much as me, if not more. It’s our safe place. Where we can slip away into cuddle heaven just for a few seconds or if I’m lucky a few minutes.

I feel very lucky to have a little boy who regularly asks me for a cuddle and a kiss. Whether it be because he needs comforting, has hurt himself, is tired, or just wants to snuggle in. They are all just so lovely. More recently Lil G’s cuddles have been rather epic. He’s taken them to a whole new level. One which I am very much enjoying. As our gorgeous boy is growing he has found himself a new way of having a ‘mummy cuddle’. He has taken to sitting across me, which allows for a really really big squeeze. I like this, I like this a lot.

I often hear mummy’s saying that their little ones do not care much for a cuddle. If I’m honest, I’m not sure I would cope. I’m a cuddler *creates new word*.  A kiss and cuddle sets me up for my day. They help me to recover from a tough day, from a long day. They pull me back to the safe place that is Our Little Family. I love nothing more than to hear Lil G say ‘I need a cuddle’. It really does make me smile. Go all gooey inside. Not only do I feel loved but it fills me with joy to know he does too.

So, I thought I would be clever and Google images for the definition of a cuddle, you know like the ones you always see on Instagram. OMG, seriously you should take a look at the images that pop up when you Google ‘definition of a cuddle’. I was expecting to see a few nice words to describe what I feel. Nope. Not at all. Not in the slightest. This is all wrong.

Back to the cuddles.

One lazy Sunday afternoon (that would be yesterday) whilst enjoying a snuggle with Lil G, I felt a nudge. I looked down, and this is what I found …

It would appear that our furry baby, or Alfie Bear as we call him was feeling left out. Bring on the Bear Cuddles. As I work from home two days of the week, he often stays very close to me on those days, keeping my feet warm, sitting with me as I work away on the laptop. Probably waiting in hope of leftovers, he does love a cuppa! For more on our furry baby you could read my post Bear Cuddles.

It is these ordinary moments which I will miss. When my boy has grown up, left the family home to make a safe zone of his own.

Signing off as mummy hargreaves, feeling very loved.

  1. Ah, this post has made me feel all warm and fuzzy! There is just nothing better than a cuddly toddler, and I try to steal as many cuddles and kisses from mine as I can. I love that your boy calls them ‘mummy cuddles’, it must be so amazing to hear.

  2. This was such a beautiful post to read. I have 5 children and the most affectionate of all is my youngest son {almost 6} and he will tell you that he loves you a dozen or more times a day. Cuddle you. Just give you a reassuring arm rub. He is so tender sweet and I hope he carries that with him into manhood. He’ll make an amazing husband one day for the right woman. xx

  3. We decided on just one child in our household as well and I know what you mean when they hug us really tight. Its so comforting and amazing how one gesture can change everything we feel in an instant! Dog cuddles are nice too! Warm and fluffy! Cuddles are the best =) #OrdinaryMoments

  4. Ahh this is so so lovely and made me feel a little emotional. I have two very cuddly and affectionate little girls, so much so that both their reports at nursery said how affectionate they are. I hope they never lose that! x

  5. Aw cuddles are SO special. When Digs was a newborn, I did feel like he only ever wanted to be with me for a feed and worried that he’d never just want to cuddle! He’s going through a really cuddly phase now though and I hope it will continue for as long as possible… I think because his dad and I are both very ‘cuddly’ people that it will just be in his genes! #ShareWithMe

  6. Ahh lovely, there is nothing better than having a cuddle with your kids. Both mine still happily, and in public, give me a spontaneous cuddle, and they are 14 and 8, and I hope they always will as I love it too! #sharewithme

  7. Ahhh bless what a lovely tribute to your beautiful son and love the photo. Cuddles really are the best. I actually have one cuddler and one that refuses to cuddle unless he is sick. Buba never wanted cuddled and as a baby I struggled because I am a huge hugger. But when Missy Moo came along it was so different. I love her cuddles and it’s like she is making up for it to me for her brother. But now that he sees his sister cuddling he asks for them and its a special moment for us. I love a good baby snuggle. Lovely post. Thanks for linking up to Share With Me #sharewithme

  9. Oh lovely post.

I have a cuddler too. He is brilliant and gives the best cuddles. And he’s liberal with them too – the nursery staff always says he gives the best, and he loves giving his aunts cuddles too. So lovely that everyone can appreciate them, especially as I’m sure when he gets older they’ll become fewer. #sharewithme

  10. Aw this is lovely. Cuddles are the best. Milin sometimes says he doesn’t want one and it breaks me every time. Mostly though, he loves them. Jasmin adores them and is very soppy. I love it ! Too sweet. Beautiful post to read this morning! x

    • Yes that’s my fear, I walked past a mummy today with maybe a high schooler and he was less than impressed to have a mummy wanting a cuddle! I couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief that Lil G has another few years yet x
