Boys and Their Toys {Ahoy me hearties}

When it came to choosing Lil G’s main Christmas present their was only one place for us to look. Great Little Trading of course. Lil G absolutely loves to dress up as a pirate. To run around the house, the local park or the beach pretending to be hunting for treasure. I love nothing more than to watch his imagination create this bubble of toddler heaven where literally he loses himself.

As we scrolled through the pages of beautifully crafted toys we stumbled across the Le Toy Van Pirate Ship, Buccaneers Fort, Pirates Mat and Toy Pirates. It was perfect. A collection of pirates, good and bad and lots of little features sure to set off his imagination. On top of that it was a wooden toy which is something Mr H and I prefer when investing in something so substantial. Take a look…

Ahoy me hearties.

It has soon become one of those toys he plays with every day. Whether it be for five minutes or an hour. Alone or with one of us. Watching a child’s imagination has to be one of my favourite things to do as a parent. Occasionally I have found him just playing with the fort, exploring all the features with the toy pirates. I love how it isn’t just a fort or a pirate ship. There are so many accessories which just add to the magic that is imaginative play. There is a cannon, crow’s nest, rigging, turning helm, trap door, wind up anchor, skull & crossbones, and fabric sails. It is most fun to watch when he plays with all the set together! I would highly recommend buying the set.

Lil G is a huge fan of the movie ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ and I think it was this film which inspired him to add in the dragons. Who apparently could save the good guys from Captain Daddy who is scariest of them all!

Technical bits:

Mr H built the toys and found it to be one of the more simplistic builds, mainly with pieces slotting together. All components are made out of wood so feel really sturdy with the exception of the masts and flagpoles. The colours, the structure and the detail combined with all the special features really do make this a super toy. Highly recommended for any pirate loving toddler! Whether boy or girl. Ahoy me hearties.

And here are some more pictures of Lil G enjoying his ‘epic’ new toy…

  1. What a wonderful set! My little boy loved pirates when he was younger though I fear has outgrown them now in favour of superheros!
