No matter how enjoyable busy weekends are I always find myself craving after a weekend or at least a day where time stands still. Where life as our little family is the focus of all my attention. No interruptions, no knock at the door with unexpected guests (dare I say unwanted) looking for a cup of tea and to disrupt the playroom. No birthday parties to attend, no deadlines to hit. Just us.
Yesterday we waved goodbye to Mr H who was off to Manchester to celebrate his birthday with the boys. Which meant that Lil G and I had a day and a night of adventure ahead of us. Just the two of us. Mummy daycare. I absolutely love my mummy days with my gorgeous boy and what better way to spend my precious weekend than making memories with him. Continue reading
Officially we have another 19 days to wait until the official date of Spring arriving. However on a little walk around Trentham Gardens yesterday we couldn’t help but notice a flash of colour appearing. These pretty little Snowdrops were Lil G’s favourite and I was instructed to ‘Take a picture mummy’.
Here they are…
On Saturday we were blessed with a beautiful blue sky, fluffy white clouds and a dry weather day. We headed to our favourite spot to get some fresh air, Trentham Gardens. Many an adventure is had here. So many of our family memories are made he. So many beautiful moments are captured. This is most definitely our happy place.
There is something rather magical about a blue sky and a country walk. I can’t quite put my finger on it but it certainly does make me smile. Such a contrast to today’s grey sky that’s for sure. This photo was taken at the beautiful Trentham Gardens yesterday. We are so lucky to have this open space on our doorstep. I am not quite sure what we would do without our annual passes.
For this post I am joining in with Darren’s #MySundayPhoto. Do pop over to his blog and check out all the other contributors…
Run free, as free as the wind blows – at one of our favourite go to places in our home town, Trentham Gardens
Day 15 – The Flying Toddler – Taking a hop, skip & a jump on a recent visit to our local gardens, this is meant to be a roll down a hill as part of the National Trust #50Things project, Lil G corrected me by saying ‘No mummy it’s a jump & roll’
Day 16 – Dress up – Quite simply he’s a Snowman, can’t you see?
Day 17 – George The Knight – Letting his imagination run wild, he built me a castle so that I could hide from the dragon, the dragon George the Knight was going to save me from
Day 18 – Reunited – His buddy returned from his holibobs and met him at Kindergarten as a surprise walk home. They have such the cutest friendship
Day 19 – Story time – This last week Lil G has thrown himself into his books. He is fixated on this Ladybird collection of stories.
Day 20 – Teddy Bears Picnic – Off to Kindergarten with his Teddy of the moment, Su from Sooty & Sweep
Day 21 – The Explorer – Wow Mummy this is our Castle, the Dragon won’t be able to get us in here. Don’t you just love the imagination of a 3 year old

Well this is a first, a post about me! So, as it is about me, here I am …
My blog is mostly filled with my thoughts on parenting and our adventures as a family. However I thought I would link up to Brummymummyof2’s ‘All About Me’ linky, here goes, my first post, not entirely related to my family.
As Lil G is fast approaching the grand old age of 3 (I may have mentioned this before!), I seemed to have turned a corner in wanting to venture out. Alone, without him and sometimes without Mr H. So in the last 2 weeks Mr H and I have had our first nights out together since the turn of the year. 2 in fact, and one of them was Lil G’s first sleepover (You can read more about this on my previous post Date night).
Already I think I’m doing quite well. So when I told Mr H that I’d booked two further nights out with the girls, he was a little surprised. Although very happy, he has often complained at me over the last two years, for not venturing out with the girls more often. If I’m honest I just wasn’t ready. I am now. Let’s do this!
Anyway I’ve digressed, let me tell you about my planned nights out, actually they could be all-dayers (is that even a word?!). For those of you that know me, I’m not the type of person to go on an all-dayer! I’m more likely to be in bed tucked up before midnight, still waking with a hangover in the morning!
A place, which I really enjoy visiting as a family is Trentham Gardens, beautiful Italian Gardens, a really fantastic playground, a beautiful lake and a fantastic shopping village. A great place to visit as a day out for the family! Well, a few weeks ago, the ‘Whats on’ guide made it’s way through my letterbox and to my surprise it was advertising the upcoming Live Music and Outdoor concerts. OMG. This was perfect. They are themed, tribute bands, always fabulous (so I’ve been told). I love a dance, even more so with a glass of Prosecco, so as any one would, I put out a text to all my friends and I’m pleased to say we have two booked in the diary!
I’m off to the ‘Motown Vogue‘ night with one friend and the ‘Kylie & Beyonce’ night with a group of us. Born in the 80’s, I grew up on Motown music so I’m rather looking forward to it! And of course you can’t help but shake your booty to a bit of Kylie & Beyoncé!
What’s great about these events, is that despite the show not starting until 7.30pm, you have access to the gardens all day, you are welcome to take your own alcohol, a picnic, a chair and a blanket and of course let’s not forget the dancing shoes!
It goes without saying that I am very much looking forward to coming out of retirement. Prior to Lil G arriving into the world, I was a music loving, picnic eating, Prosecco drinking kinda gal who always looked forward to a night out with the girls.
Fingers crossed Mr H offers to do the 6am get up with Lil G the next day!
To all my followers who aren’t linked up, why not share a post #AllAboutYou …
For the first time this year Mr H and I were out together on Saturday night, yes that’s right our first night our ‘together’ of 2014. When I say it out loud it really does sound ludicrous. Don’t get me wrong, we have been out separately however when it has come for us to have a night out as a couple, sadly something has got in the way and prevented it from happening. It goes without saying that I was looking forward to getting dressed up!
We were off out to surprise our friend for her 40th Birthday. The sun was shining so we took the opportunity to put Lil G to bed early and escape for a drink together before the birthday celebrations kicked in. With Lil G’s Uncle babysitting we didn’t need to worry about rushing back either, heaven. The evening started with a bottle of Prosecco, sunshine and bubbles, what better way to spend a sunny Saturday evening. What I hadn’t considered was the 6am start the next day, an energy filled toddler, the hangover and the fact that I also had a swimming lesson with Lil G at 9am. Ouch doesn’t cover it.
You’ll be pleased to know that I survived the swimming lesson, however I did have to take a nap at 11am much to my husbands amusement. As someone who rarely drinks, it doesn’t take long for the hangover to descend like a black rain cloud! Thankfully the sun came out on my hangover and we reconvened our day as a family in the sun, complete with paracetamol and water for me, ice cream and a picnic for Lil G and Mr H!
Coming soon on the blog, Date night (Part 3), as Lil G has his first sleepover this weekend with his friend F, exciting times. Typically our nights out are like buses, two come at once! You might like to read Part one of the ‘Date night’ series.
