We conkered {The Ordinary Moments}

Some said it was too early, Mr H said our local park would have been explored already by all the boys and girls, others said we were missing out.

They were wrong. He was wrong. They were right.

Just look at how many we found…

Yesterday we conkered our local park, to us it is known as the Brampton. To the boys it was a huge open space full of adventure waiting to be had. It is a lovely area, we are blessed to have it on our doorstep. I know that conkered isn’t an actual word but for the purpose of this post it is indeed *adds to dictionary*.

Catching falling leaves, looking for conkers ‘Will it hit me on the head mummy’ … (hopefully not)

Mr H was out for the day yesterday with his pals … Boozing. So it was a #MummyDaycare kind of day. What better way to spend our day than on an adventure in our local park in search of conkers for the very first time. EVER. Oh well Mr H, you did choose to spend the day boozing dear. We conkered.

To make it a little more fun for Lil G I invited his buddy Freddy along to join in the fun. Truth be told they much preferred running around and hiding in the bushes than searching for conkers. It wasn’t until us mummies started to fill the basket that they realised just how much fun it could be. Soon enough we were coming across them at every step along the beautiful, autumnal leafy filled paths. It became a little competition. With myself as much as with the boys (They call me Monica don’t you know).

Mr H was a little surprised when he saw the basket of lovely shiny conkers. I believe we may be going on another hunt today. Apparently we must knock them from the branches to may it a real conkering adventure. There’s another new word. Eek.

Yesterday it was something out of the ordinary for us, today it will become one of {The Ordinary Moments} for our little family. Something we will repeat each year. I am very much looking forward to coming home with a basket of these each year.

Now we just need to learn how to make them the strongest for us to play conker games. Ooh another competition. Who will win? Eek.

  1. Ah there is definitely an Autumnal feel in the air this week, two posts on conkers so far. My big girl wasn’t interested in them last year but I bet she will be this year. Lovely photos as well, I loved conker hunting when I was little! x

  2. I absolutely love looking for conkers with the children, takes me back to my childhood and even now the excitement is still there when you find one. I love their colouring and shapes and they are just so beautiful aren’t they. You got a great haul and looks like you had a fab time. Thank you for linking up to #magicmoments

  3. My daughters love going ‘conker hunting’. We went last week and the birds in the trees were making it literally rain conkers. It looked amazing but a little dangerous so we just watched from afar.

    Lovely post and fab pictures.

  4. I did wonder if that lovely shot from your silent sunday this week might be part of a country Kids post! Lovely to see the full story and what fun the children look to be having with their haul of conkers. Thank you for sharing with me.
